Coping with Your Generalized Anxiety Disorder

GAD or generalized anxiety disorder is one of the most common types of anxiety disorder. Those who experience this behavioral condition feel anxious most of the time about any random or given circumstances about their lives.

Their common worries are usually about family and home matters such as finances, personal health and relationships, and though they recognize that they are already being irrational because of their emotion, they still can help themselves on worrying too much.

One example of this is when a person worries too much about money situation even if he or she is already financially stable. This behavioral condition is quite common in adults.

Kids also experience GAD, some kids worry too much in their performance in school or even in natural catastrophic events such as typhoon, tornado, and earthquakes.

People with this kind of anxiety disorder can’t function in a given situation well, simply because their worries interferes their state of mind, making them unable to concentrate when it is needed most.

Like any types of anxiety, this condition is noticeable through physical symptoms such as irritability, disturbed sleep, muscle aches and tension.

Anxiety on the other hand, can be helpful. Study shows that when you are worrying, your mind is actually more alert. This can give you a good jumpstart in your task like talking in front of a big crowd. However, if you allow your worries to interfere your concentration, it can make matters even worse as you will be unable to deliver.

When one feels anxious, most of the time, he or she will underestimate his or her own ability to cope with the particular situation or problem. This then leads the person to a stressful situation as he or she can’t pull his or her self together.

Though this behavioral disorder is usually hereditary, many environmental factors can greatly affect ones worry, especially when upbringing comes into picture.

The feeling of too much nervousness and worrying can root from miserable experiences in life, like death of a loved on, broken relationships, or health issues. Attacks of anxiety attacks also show physical and noticeable symptoms such as feeling of faint or having a hard time breathing, increased heart rate and sweating while feeling cold. It would be good if you recognize the feeling your self to help you cope with it.

Mental health professionals such as psychiatrists, has variety of methods to help an individual cope with the condition. Their methods include the use of medications and therapy sessions such as psychoactive drugs, psychotherapy and behavior therapy. These techniques can help a person control the emotion making him or her able to function well in times of distress.

Other techniques like hypnosis, meditation and biofeedback are also effective in controlling the emotion.

A person can also overcome anxiety just by knowing some important techniques. Of course, one has to realize the he or she is experiencing the condition before applying such techniques.

One of the most effectively self-help techniques to overcome this condition is through CBT or cognitive behavioral therapy. This process includes breathing techniques, relaxation like deep muscle relaxation, conscious meditation, distraction activities, etc.

Just by knowing and implementing these techniques one can have a total control of himself even when feeling uneasy.
